Friendship Flight '97: Live Update 9
from Chuck Abel We had six elementary schools and two middle schools visit Bill at Gillespie Field in El Cajon, California, (a suburb of San Diego) today (May 6, 1997) between 9 a.m. and noon. There were approximately 300 students from grade two through grade eight involved in meeting Bill, signing the stick-on panels he'll take to Paris, and becoming a part of history. It was a great time for everyone and Bill Signs did a terrific job with the kids as he related the story of Lindbergh's life and how San Diego is tied to this historic re-creation flight. The teachers received materials at the field and we're looking forward to tracking Bill's progress via the internet as he heads for Paris. We had press coverage from the local paper and KFMB-TV, the local CBS affiliate. Thank you to all the sponsors, the San Diego Aerospace Museum and the local 99's group who helped host the children during the visit.
